Anna Belle Walker

Anna Belle Walker, 94, of Pep passed from this life on March 23, 2020.  Private family graveside services were held on March 27, 2020 at Saint Phillip Neri Cemetery in Pep.

Anna Belle was the 2nd girl born in Pep, Texas. She was the fifth child of eight born to Adolph and Annie Jungman. She grew up on the family farm and regularly milked cows, drove the tractor, hoed and pulled cotton. She loved to sing in the church choir, played tennis and the piano, and loved to dance. She graduated from Pep High School in 1943. In 1944, she worked at the Pep Grocery Store and the Post Office until 1946. She married the love of her life, JW Walker on May 21, 1946 at St Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pep.

They began their life together on a farm southwest of Pep and raised their family there. She returned to work at the Pep Cotton Gin, and then returned to the Grocery Store and Post Office. She became the Post Master of Pep in 1977 until she retired in 2000.

Anna Belle was a very active member of the church. She attended the first Pep Thanksgiving dinner in 1945 which was held as a celebration of “our boys returning from World War II service.” Following that year, it became an annual festival. For the last 74 years, she attended and volunteered at each and every one. She helped her dad and sister, Ida, with advertising of the Thanksgiving festival, and took it over with the help of her daughter Diana in 2003. She served as secretary of the Catholic Life Insurance of Pep. She served many roles within the church and was always there to assist in flower arrangements, and decorating for holidays and celebrations.

She was a proud mother of her 4 children, grandmother of her 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. They were her pride and joy and she enjoyed every minute she spent with them. Christmas Eve was always spent as a large family gathering with food, fun, laughter, and love.

Anna Belle was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Annie Jungman; husband, J.W. Walker; son, Alvin Walker and wife Mary; brothers, Erwin Jungman, Adolphus Jungman and wife Lorene; sisters, Ida Simnacher and husband Frankie, Valeria Pickrell and husband Merl, Theresa Feagley and husband Jay, and Adriene Smith.
