Barbara Lee
Driver
May 10, 1945 – February 23, 2026
Barbara Driver, 80, went to her eternal home to be with Jesus on February 23, 2026 at Hickory Terrace in Levelland. She was born on May 10, 1945 to John and Margarett Hancock in Memphis, Texas.
Barbara married the love of her life, Lester Driver on June 22, 1963 in Clarendon, Texas
She graduated from Memphis High School in 1963. While in high school she was active in the band. While Lester started his career in education with stops at Roaring Springs, Wellman, Three Way and Levelland, Barbara was a homemaker and a wonderful mother as Teri and Tammy arrived. Eventually, Barbara started classes at South Plains College, then transitioned to Texas Tech where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
In the summer of 1969, Barbara and Lester moved to Levelland, where she spent the next 56 years. When Barbara finished her degree, she began her teaching career with Levelland ISD. She spent the first year at Carver School teaching Kindergarten, before moving to South Elementary for the next 25 years where she taught First Grade. Barbara retired in May of 1999 to become a fulltime Mimi. Barbara loved her family. She spent many years caring for her grandkids before they were old enough to start school. She and Lester traveled many miles watching grandkids participate in their various activities from the time they started school through graduation.
Through these years, Lester and Barbara fostered 67 newborn babies from Smithlawn Maternity Home. Together, they loved and cared for all of these babies like they were their own. Each of these children were given a nurturing environment that was crucial for them as newborns in the Driver home.
Barbara was an active member of the 13th and K Church of Christ. She loved her God and Jesus Christ. Barbara and Lester attended every service and participated in Bible Studies weekly, along with teaching bible class through the years. Barbara had an unmatched knowledge of the Bible. She didn’t just read it, she studied it, with the help of not only the Bible, but any devotional or study Bible she could get her hands on. There was not a situation that occurred with family or friends, whether it was joy, sadness, excitement, triumph or tragedy that Barbara couldn’t guide with wisdom, offer counsel, or share scripture to help make sense of it.
Barbara loved to spend time in her garden. This is something she passed on to her daughters. She would spend all spring planting flowers in her beds, planters and pots. Every day after that, through the Fall was spent turning dirt, pulling weeds, watering and most of all, just spending time in her beautiful backyard with Lester.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Teri Douglas and husband Dave of Elgin, Tammy Green and husband Brent of Littlefield; grandchildren Tayla Mitschke and husband Jeff, Matthew Ingle and wife Natalie, Madison Ingle, Fana Rangel and husband Emilio, Blake Green, and Brenton Green; great grandchildren Kade, Kasyn, Koltyn, Kooper, and Tinley Mitschke, Rio and Luna Rangel; her sisters Johnnie Sue Hancock, Ginger Boyd and husband Jim. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lester, her father John Hancock, and her mother Margarett Hancock.
The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Hickory Terrace Assisted Living for the loving care they have provided for Barbara over the past 3 ½ years. We would also like to thank Enhabit Hospice for the care provided over the course of the last year.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be at Krestridge Funeral Home, with Noah Gaitan officiating at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 26. Burial will follow at the City of Levelland Cemetery.
