Burl Shaw of Sundown went home to be with Jesus peacefully from his home Sunday morning, July 15, 2025.
God chose to bless Virgil and Irene Shaw on Sept 15, 1931, in Osakaloosa, Iowa, when he blessed them with a little boy that they name Burl. He was welcomed into his new home by his brothers, Bill, Bob, Ben, and his sister, Barb. After Burl was born then came the last of the siblings when Bonnie blessed us with her presence. The family was complete.
Burl started school in Osakaloosa, where he was a shining star in basketball and track. He loved those two sports. While he was going to school the family moved away in 1947 and came to Sundown, Texas in search of work. Burl came during those summers and worked until school started back up in Osakaloosa and he went back and lived with his grandparents until he graduated from Osakaloosa High School in 1948. He then made his way back to Texas.
While Burl was here in Texas when his parents first came, things started to change as he met Tincy Ruthart and it was love at first sight. After his return he worked at the Texaco Station that his parents ran and also did painting as a living so he could support his new bride. Burl and Tincy married on October 29th, 1951, in Lovington New Mexico. This union lasted 67 years and about 5 months before Tincy went home to be with the Lord.
Burl was drafted in 1952 and spent two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He served in the artillery division during that time. After his discharge from the Army, Burl came back home and their family was blessed first with a son, Brock who was born in 1953 and in 1955 they were blessed with their daughter, Pam and the family was complete.
Burl went to work after the military in the oilfield, where he worked for Honolulu Oil which later became Amoco Oil. Burl was very faithful to the oil companies but after 28 years he retired to enjoy his family. During retirement golf became a hobby, along with woodworking, cooking out, and hunting but his main hobby was his family. He hardly ever missed anything that his grandchildren did. He was as strong supporter of his family. Burl was very blessed with his life, but he did have some hardships.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, his son, Brock and his precious bride, Tincy. They just became a part of the welcoming committee for Sunday morning.
When Burl left us Sunday, he left a beautiful legacy; daughter, Pam Lee, Sundown, Texas; sister, Bonnie (Dale) Childs, Sundown Texas; grandsons, Eric Lee of Sundown, Texas, Dane Shaw of Dallas, Texas and Matt Shaw of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Kristy (Daniel Fred) Reno Nevada; great grandchildren, Jaleigh Fred, Tessa Fred and Kaelynn Fred all of Reno, Nevada; along with his extended family, Caleb Locklin of Denton Texas, Sara Fabien of West, Texas and Anna Locklin of Littlefield, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in the Sundown Cemetery.
