Charles Edward
Nance
February 1, 1933 – March 28, 2026
Charles Edward Nance, 93, of Levelland, Texas, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas. Funeral services will be Friday, April 3, 2026, at Park Drive Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at City of Sundown Cemetery.
Charles, lovingly known to all as "Papa", was born on February 1, 1933, in Whiteface, Texas, to James Madison Nance and Helen Frances (Lucas) Nance. He was one of eleven children.
He married the love of his life, Dorothy Fay Luttrell, on September 30, 1949, in Sundown, Texas. Together, they welcomed six children and built a life centered on love, hard work, and family. Charles spent the majority of his life in Whiteface and Sundown areas, with a short period living in Utah for work. He and Dorothy also owned a lake house in Robert Lee, Texas, where countless summer memories were made with family.
Charles owned and operated Charles Nance Dirt Contractors in Sundown, Texas. Both before and after starting his own business, he worked extensively with heavy equipment from Utah to Texas. His work ethic was unwavering, but his greatest joy was always his family.
Papa loved being involved in every family moment - especially with his grandchildren. He was always the first to line up with his grands for Easter egg hunts, proudly had his own Christmas stocking, and never missed the chance to celebrate his birthday party. He could often be found in the middle of his grandchildren, smiling from ear to ear with pride. He also found happiness in tinkering with just about anything, spending time at the lake, watching car races, and enjoying wrestling.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Fay Nance; son, Charles Allen Nance; grandchildren, John Allen Nance, Hannah Nance, Brennan Nance, and Jerry Mulkey; great-grandson, Mason Williams; and sons-in-law, Robert Sanders and Mike Waygood.
He is survived by his children: Gayla Sanders, Brownwood, Texas; Charlotte Crain, Levelland, Texas; Barbara Waygood, Levelland, Texas; Sandra (Don) Collins, Sundown, Texas and Brad (Babette) Nance, Denham Springs, Louisiana.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tonya Nance, Shatan (Bo) Vasquez, Amanda (Justin) Warren, Melissa (Randy) Williams, Tina Mulkey, Denny York, Jody (Ketha) York, Lori (James) Hutchins, Chris Waygood, Jessica (Dakota) Perser, Shauna (Cody) Wade, Hollie (Josh) Boyette, Rachel (Nathan) Forte, and Blaine (Amy) Nance. Papa is further survived by 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.
Papa's life was a beautiful example of love, laughter, and family. His stories, his smile, and his steady presence will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
