Dimitri Alex Werenko

Dimitri Alex Werenko, 86, of Levelland passed from this life on December 31, 2023.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the City of Levelland Cemetery.

He was born in Hartford, CT. on April 4, 1937 to Michael and Mary Werenko, and raised in Peabody, Mass.  Dimitri served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1965 where he served one year in France during the Berlin Wall Crisis.  He married Olga Kushkowski in 1957 and were married for 66 years. Dimitri retired from GTE Sylvania after 33 years of service as a quality control technician. 

Dimitri owned a cabin in Maine and enjoyed flyfishing.  He and Olga enjoyed paddling and canoeing on Flagstaff Lake.  Dimitri also enjoyed woodworking and tying flies.  He rooted for his favorite teams, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the New England Patriots. 

He and Olga moved to Levelland in 2000 to be near their son, daughter-in-law and grandson.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Levelland.

Dimitri was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Werenko; sister, Starr Watson; and infant daughter.

He is survived by is wife of 66 years, Olga; son, Timothy (Robin) Werenko; grandson, Aaron Werenko of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews and one aunt.
