“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and He delights in his way.” Psalm 37:23
The man who spent 42 years proclaiming the soul-saving message of Jesus Christ has himself received the crown of life.
On Thursday morning July 16, 2026, Eddie Trice passed away peacefully in his home with his wife by his side.
On September 25, 1945 in Abilene, Texas, Eddie was born the youngest of three rowdy boys to Granville Houston Trice and J.C. (Jackie) Thorn Trice. The family ultimately made their home in Hawley, Texas where Eddie was an excellent athlete. He was All State in both basketball and track, with basketball being his favorite.
Upon graduation, Eddie played basketball on scholarship at Henderson College and continued playing at McMurry and graduated. It was around this time that he met his future bride, Pat Bailey on a blind date. On February 23, 1967, the young couple were secretly married at Abilene Bible Center in a small ceremony of six witnesses and the Pastor. On their wedding night, Eddie delivered Pat to her parents’ home by her 10:00 p.m., curfew, kissed her good night and then he returned to the athletic dorm at McMurry. It only took 4 days for the secret to get out.
After graduation, Eddie not only went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin University, he spent a decade in college administration in both Texas and New Mexico. During this time, and calling Texas home, he and Pat started their family, adding Todd, then Tiffany and eighteen years later, Taylor. Their three precious gifts from God.
Eddie began to feel the call of God and began to follow his passion and purpose at South Plains Church (formerly South Plains Baptist Church). Forty-two faithful years Eddie pastored, along with Pat, as they loved and served the people of South Plains Church and the community in Levelland, Texas.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Pat, his children: Todd, Tiffany (Adam) and Taylor. His grandchildren: Hannah (Ricardo), Brooklin (Johnny), Nate and Jack. Great-grandchildren: Elio and baby brother due in November. Sisters-in-law Sandy Trice, Bobbie Lankford (Hugh) and brother-in-law Bill Bailey (Michelle).
He was preceded in death by his father Granville Houston, his mother J.C. (Jackie), and both of his brothers, Ronnie and Kenneth..
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Church on the Rock in Levelland, Texas. A private burial was held in Abilene on Monday, July 20th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideon Bible Society.
