Esther Torrez

Esther Torrez, 82, of Sundown, Texas gained her wings on October 17, 2021 at her home in Sundown, Texas, surrounded by family.  Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Krestridge Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sundown Cemetery.

She was born on April 17, 1939 to Enemencio and Damiana Peralez in San Antonio, Texas.  Esther married Librado Torrez on November 14, 1953.  She worked as a migrant worker throughout the United States for many years until she became a homemaker and business owner.

Esther and Librado had 7 children together and settled in Sundown, Texas.  In the mid-60s, they started in the restaurant business in Sundown.  They owned several restaurants, including Lee’s Café and Burrito Express.  They continued to build a large following with Torrez Fajitas and sold in all the surrounding areas.  This became a family business that continues to operate this day.

Her family was her life!  She loved watching her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids play in all sports.  She also enjoyed crypto gram puzzles, plants, playing cards with her family, listening to music and dancing.

Esther will be greatly missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by 2 great grandchildren,Hayden Escamilla and Rodrigo Franco; and her husband, Librado Torrez.

Esther is survived by two brothers, Enemencio Peralez, Jr. (Margie) of Sundown, Texas and Fidel Garcia (Angie) of Arizona; sister, Sylvia Guajardo of Boerne, Texas; daughters, Esther Martinez (Jesus) of Sundown, Texas, Kathy Deleon (Ruben) of New Deal, Texas, Mary Gaona (Alvino) of Sundown, Texas, Rachel Acosta (Elias) of Sundown, Texas, and Irene Herrera (Israel) of Brownfield, Texas; sons, Edward Torrez (Rosa) of Sundown, Texas, and Librado Torrez, Jr. (Irene) of Sundown, Texas; 29 grandchildren; 75 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
