Evelynn Young

Evelynn Ladelle Young passed peacefully from this earthly life on February 2, 2022 in Levelland, Texas at the age of 86.  Services are pending at this time and will be announced when available.

Evelynn was born on April 26, 1935 in Levelland to L.U. and Berthie Thompson. She grew up in Whiteface, Texas and graduated from Whiteface High School. Evelynn married George E. Young on November 30, 1952 in Whiteface. His job as a railroad telegraph operator took them to many West Texas towns, including San Angelo where she worked as a switchboard operator for the local phone company and where first son George, Jr. was born. Later settling in Lubbock where Evelynn gave birth to sons Ronald and Richard.

Evelynn moved to Michigan in 1961, where daughter Jeanetta was born. She lived there until 1992, raising her four children and helping with her two granddaughters. She was involved in PTA and Cub Scouts, and worked as a hospital switchboard operator, a medical receptionist, and at Ford Motor Company. Evelynn moved back to Whiteface in 1992, serving on the city council and as treasurer for Whiteface Senior Citizens. She loved her cats and was a big fan of golf, NASCAR, and football.

Evelynn never knew a stranger and there wasn't a person she wouldn't help out if she saw the need. At the same time, she didn't take any nonsense from anybody and wasn't afraid to call you out if necessary. She loved animals and supported The Humane Society and other organizations fighting animal cruelty. Evelynn was proud of our military veterans and contributed regularly to various support groups. She loved her family and will be greatly missed.

Evelynn was preceded in death by her parents, L.U. and Berthie Thompson; and son Richard L. Young (Jim Woodward). She is survived by sons George E. Young, Jr. (Nancy Young) and Ronald A. Young; daughter Jeanetta L. Kreg (Kevin Kreg); granddaughters Jaclyn Young (David Sweet) and Katie Young; grandsons Connor Richardson and Riley Kreg; and former husband George E. Young (Diane Young).
