Geneva Parkinson

Memorial services for Geneva Pearl Bean Parkinson, 87, of Levelland will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Cactus Drive Church of Christ, Levelland, Texas with Aaron Scott and William Eudy officiating. Geneva's body has been donated to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. She passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017.

Geneva was born on April 19, 1930 in Littlefield, Texas and was a longtime resident of Hockley County. She graduated from Littlefield High School. Geneva married M.E. (Gene) Parkinson on December 15, 1949 in Littlefield.

Gene and Geneva opened Parkinson TV in 1955 and it grew into Parkinson Electronics. In 1973, they dropped the retail section of their business and quickly became a large mobile communications business. They operated the business for over 50 years and employed some of their children and grandchildren over the years. Geneva was a lifetime member of Cactus Drive Church of Christ.

Geneva was a member of the PTA, Den Mother, band sponsor, 4-H sponsor, Lioness, Marigold, and an Honorary Rotarian. She, along with Gene, received the Citizen of the Year award for Levelland, the Lions Club Dale Albright Award, and The SPC Foundation Pacesetter Award.

Gene and Geneva were strong in their Christian faith and always put others first, as evidenced by their many generous donations to several Children's Homes, South Plains College, and the Rotary Club. They also funded the radio program ''Just for Today'' on KLVT radio for many years.

Geneva wrote many prayers and had them published in the Lubbock AJ Daily Prayer and later, Words of Inspiration, for over 25 years. She used those same prayers to create bookmarks which she distributed world-wide.

Geneva is survived by sons, Melvin (Jan) Parkinson of Levelland, Terry (Katherine) Parkinson of Chandler, IN, Tommy (Pam) Parkinson of Possum Kingdom Lake; daughter, Toni (Terry ''Toby'') Wilson of Sundown; sister, Edith Lancaster of Lubbock; brother, Ray (Judy) Bean of Irving; sisters-in-law, Nancy Barry of Levelland and Marilyn (Bob) Morrill of Fruita, CO; 22 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Mickey Parkinson, brother Harold Bean, great granddaughter Tayla Parkinson, and great great grandson Slayde David Parkinson.
