James "Jim" Davis

James R. (Jim) Davis passed at home so peacefully into Heaven’s gates in the early morning of August 6, 2025. Funeral Services have been set for Saturday, August 9 at 10:00 AM at the First Assembly of God Church in Levelland, Texas. Internment will follow in the City of Levelland cemetery.

Jim was born to Connie Lee and Radia Beth Davis on December 2, 1934 in the rural community of Levelland, Texas. He attended and graduated from Whitharral schools. He played 6-man football as a proud Panther. He was small, but always a fierce competitor. That competitive spirit carried through all of his years. Whether it was playing cards and dominoes with family and friends, being the team pitcher for the church Softball team, playing Tennis with his daughter, or throwing horseshoes and washers with the grandkids, whatever the competition, he played to win…and he was good at it.

Jim attended Amarillo College and earned his Associates degree, desiring a higher degree, but found the love of his life, and wanted marriage more. He married Ramona Howell on April 2, 1955. Together they had three daughters, Sherry, Suanne, and Jana. Jim would have loved to have a son, so his girls did everything they could to make him proud by showing pigs, chopping cotton, and one even chewing tobacco.

Jim worked multiple jobs at a time to provide for his family that he loved dearly. He worked nights at cotton gins, as a bookkeeper at ag businesses such as Kerr McGee, and later as a sales associate for Leon Ransom Feed Store. He bought out Mr. Ransom in 1970, and changed the name to “Ag Products, Inc.”, where he continued the competitive nature of business in the agriculture arena. He was also a proud farmer, not only producing his own beautiful crops, but also lending much advice and counsel to surrounding farmers who greatly respected him.

No matter how many jobs he juggled, he made it a priority to come home in the evening to tirelessly play in the floor with his girls. He always made sure there was enough money in the pot to take a fun family vacation to create memories—something instilled within him by his precious and giving mother. There were also many sweet memories made spending time with family and dear friends at Lake Kemp in Seymour. Times we all will cherish.

Jim retired in 2006, looking forward to spending the rest of his years with his bride. They took cherished trips with dear friends to New York City and Hawaii, laughing for years about their fun escapades.

Jim had a gentle and quiet spirit, yet was gifted with a tremendous sense of wit that could leave one laughing uncontrollably. He loved to laugh. He loved life. He will be greatly be missed.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Gerald Davis and Charles Davis; and his sisters, Carol Henley and Martha Sue Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ramona Davis; daughters, Sherry (Danny) Alexander, Suanne (Ronny) Alexander, and Jana (Mike) Avery; and grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Alexander, Chase (Raegan) Alexander, Kirk (Jessie) Alexander, Cade (Sierra) Avery, Creed (Natalie) Avery, and Kirstie (Mick) Limon; great-grandchildren, Parker, Dylan, and Max Alexander, Miles and Cole Alexander, Grayson and Nolan Alexander, Cage, Crew and Collins Avery, Annie Avery, and Brooke, Canaan and Camden Limon, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to especially extend their deepest gratitude to Gina Reyes, Faith Tambasi and staff with Cornerstone who angelically cared for him in his final weeks. Thank you to Pastor Lacy McAdams for the visits, and huge gratitude to Allison and staff with Enhabit Hospice who was always prompt to tend to his needs and in his final passing.

Our hearts are deeply grateful for every prayer lifted, as they were and continue to be felt.
