John Patrick Moonen gained the ability to walk, see and hear again when he stepped into his eternal home April 20, 2023, just two days shy of his 92nd birthday. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger.
He is survived by two daughters, Robin Sullivan (Keith Sullivan) and Reeda Jon York; four granddaughters, Mykka Dockery (Jared Dockery), Ashli York, Lindsi Oliver (Matt Oliver), and Stevi Stripling (Michael Stripling); and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Jacqueline (Cope) Moonen in November of 2007; parents, C.T. and Katherine (Eagan) Moonen; a brother, Charles B. Moonen; and beloved son in law, Randy York.
John was born in Runnels County on April 22, 1931. He lived all of his life on their family farm until moving to Brownfield, Texas in 1959.
He attended school in Ballinger, Texas. John loved his country and served in the National Guard and Army Reserves from 1948 until 1960 when he was Honorably Discharged.
He was a shift foreman at Ozark Mahoney in Seagraves, Texas until he retired at age 62.
John was a hard worker and no one could ever call him lazy. He had an inventor’s mind and could fix anything. He was a good dad, and Paw. John valued family above all.
