Joyce Ann Simnacher

Joyce Ann Simnacher was an extremely kind and gentle soul, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She went home to be with our Lord in the early hours of Monday, August 24th, 2026, after 86 years of faithfully serving Him.

Joyce was born at home near Littlefield, Texas, on May 29th, 1940, to Edward L. Schlottman and Agnes Albina Brenek Schlottman. She grew up in Pep, Texas, and when traveling, was always very proud to tell everyone that she was from the South Plains. She was particularly proud of being a Texan. On February 20th, 1960, she was married in Pep at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church to Maloy Simnacher, her childhood sweetheart.

Joyce was an artist, a fantastic cook, and a lover of family. She had a very creative mind and could sew anything. Her family of seven got its entire supply of vegetables from her several-acre garden, and there was always still enough left over to give to neighbors due to her care. After decades of being a farm wife, she had great understanding of not only what it took to keep a cotton crop growing, but also a surprising amount of knowledge regarding the old Spanish land terms such as leagues and labors. She could look at a piece of land and tell you how many acres it consisted of.

Joyce was a huge Elvis fan throughout her life. She could not sing a lick, but that didn’t stop her from joyfully trying. She loved music. She loved spending time in the summer in the New Mexico mountain wilderness. She had an adventurous soul. She loved babies; she hated jigsaw puzzles and hot days. She loved to go dancing and playing 42 dominoes. She loved participating in the Garden Club. She adored flowers and birds and Hallmark movies. Most of all, she loved God and going to church, and even in the nursing home, nurses reported daily that they would find her on the floor praying. During the last few days there, she repeatedly told staff, “Maloy is waiting for me. We are going home.” And indeed, home she went.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Maloy Simnacher, her son, Bart Simnacher, her parents, Edward and Agnes Schlottman, her sister Deloris Kapavik, and brothers Daniel Schlottman, Anthony Schlottman, and Royce Schlottman.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Corinna and Jay Robinson, Danita and Greg Young, Darlene and Mark Risinger, and Stephanie Simnacher. She has twelve grandchildren: Dakota, Ryder, and Dusti Robinson, Garrett, Dylan, and Colton Risinger, Katherine, Taylor, Ria, and Chloe Young, Derek Franks, and Deziree Roberts. Great-grandchildren include Maloy, Delila, Maddie and Charlie Risinger, Parker and Lara Young, Zoie Risinger, Leare and Saeger Robinson, and Birdie Morgan.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 at Krestridge Funeral Home in the chapel from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a rosary starting at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pep, TX at 10:00 AM with burial to follow.
