Linda Kay Shipley Nance

Linda Kay Shipley Nance, a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to strength, love, and dedication, passed away on May 14, 2026, in Lubbock, TX. Born on December 11, 1943, in Levelland, TX, Linda’s journey was marked by resilience and an unwavering commitment to the people she cherished most.

Linda grew up in Sundown, where she excelled academically, graduating as Salutatorian in 1962. Her early years built the foundation for a life filled with passion and purpose. On June 8, 1962, she married Charles (Charlie) Shipley, with whom she shared many years until 1983. Later, in February 2003, she married Charles Nance, embracing a new chapter.

A proud mother, Linda’s heart belonged to her daughter, Cindy, born on July 13, 1965. Cindy was her blessing and her world, and their bond was as close as one could imagine—best friends who shared everything from travels to daily joys. Linda supported Cindy's business ventures, cheered her on in sports, and relished their lunches and beauty shop days together. The devotion they shared was palpable and a source of inspiration to all who knew them.

Linda’s professional life was equally distinguished. Beginning her work with SIC Finance Company in 1971, she climbed the ranks to become a celebrated manager, honored with numerous awards over her 33-year career. She retired in 2004 with Beneficial Finance who bought out SIC Finance, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, meticulous attention to detail, and a spirit that never stopped striving for excellence. True to her nature, she poured her heart and soul into both her career and being a wonderful mama.

A vibrant and feisty redhead, Linda was known for her impeccable style—never leaving the house without her makeup perfectly done, her hair styled, and dressed to impress. She embodied a spirit of determination and clarity, living in black and white with no room for ambiguity. Her love was fierce and unconditional, and she stood as a beacon of strength and independence, especially in her belief that women should be strong and self-reliant.

Travel was a passion dear to Linda’s heart, with Ruidoso, NM, and California holding a special place as favorite destinations, the latter reconnecting her with nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Rodeo days brought her immense joy and were among the many moments she treasured deeply.

Though her final years were marked by a struggle with COPD-Emphysema, Linda's mind remained sharp, and her fighting spirit endured. In the face of adversity, she held fast to her love for her family—Cindy, Steve Harris (her favorite son-in-law), and Bling, her beloved fur grandbaby whom she treated as family. Her fierce devotion extended through her steps into the lives of her step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Dakota, Kyler, Sawyer, Boone Adams, Mikayle, Casey, Rhaelyn, Rhyder, and Rhynlee Bracey.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Jessie Deaton, and siblings Betty Deaton Hilliard, Bobby Joe Deaton, and Carrol Red Deaton. She is survived by her beloved daughter Cindy Harris; Steve Harris; her brother Harold Deaton; cousin Walter Miller; and the extended family she so treasured.
