Marcos Garcia, Jr.

Mr. Marcos Garcia, Jr., son of the late Marcos Garcia, Sr. and Esther Valerio Garcia, was born on September 8, 1954 in Brownfield, Texas.  He attended and graduated from Sundown High School.  Marcos was raised in a religious household and was devoted to the Baptist Church at an early age.  Following high school, Marcos began his career in the oilfield and gained employment with Amoco and the following acquisitions.

Marcos took the hand of Linda Garza Garcia in holy matrimony on July 7, 1977.  They were blessed with raising four children.

He was an active member in his community volunteering his time at the Sundown Fire Department for several years.  Throughout his life, Marcos served on the Sundown City Council as well as coaching and umpiring for the local little league baseball.  As a result, Marcos formed many lasting relationships with members of the community in which he was dearly loved and appreciated.  His main hobbies were participating with his colleagues in the South Plains Bowling League, golfing and fishing.

On the morning of December 27, 2023, Marcos peacefully passed into his heavenly home at his daughter’s residence in Sundown. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ramon Garcia; sister, Martha Zamora; and parents, Marcos and Esther Garcia.

His lasting influence and memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Linda; children, Christopher (Lindsey) Garcia of Seminole, Cynthia (Scotty) Garcia of Sundown, Nick (Jessica) Garcia of Sundown; and Jacob Garcia of Lubbock; eleven grandchildren; sisters, Chela Martin of Syracuse, NY, Sylvia Simmons of Richmond, VA, Ruth Garcia, and Minerva Garcia of Lubbock; and brother, Felipe Garcia of Edinburg, TX.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Krestridge Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in the Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Sundown Cemetery.
