Matilde Garza Cavazos

Matilde Cavazos, 90, of Lubbock passed from this life on August 6, 2025. Visitation will be held at Krestridge Funeral Home on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield.

Matilde was born on November 9, 1934, to her parents Juan Rafael Garza and Gonzala Benavides in Guerrero, Tamps, Mexico. She married the love of her life, Francisco Cavazos, Sr., on August 16, 1958. She spent her life as a housewife raising her children. She truly enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Her kitchen was a sanctuary of flavor and love, where her famous tortillas and tamales brought people together; and where no one ever left with an empty stomach!

She is preceded in death by her husband Francisco Cavazos Sr.; her children, Ismael Cavazos, Ismael “Mayo” Cavazos, and daughter in law, Martha Cavazos. She is also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sylvia Cavazos.

Those who are left to honor and cherish her memory include her sons, Deacon Juan Cavazos, and Francisco (Josie) Cavazos Jr.; and daughters, Margarita (Miguel) Garza, Carmen (Israel) Ramirez, and Marisol (Nathan Delgado) Salas.

She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”
