Michael Matt Burt,73, passed away on July 10,2026 in his home with his family by his side. Michael was born on June 28,1953 in Littlefield, Texas to Charles and Ethel (Demel) Burt.
He grew up in Pep, Texas where he learned the value of kindness and developed a strong work ethic, a deep love of family and a steadfast faith in God. He graduated from Pep High School in May of 1971 and began his college journey at South Plains Junior College. He later graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration in May of 1975.
Michael began his professional career with the State of Texas Tax Department where he worked for two years. He then moved to J.C. Penny where he dedicated over 30 years of service until his retirement in May of 2012.
Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew him. One of his nephews described him as one of the kindest persons he had ever known. He was an uncle and brother who always helped with anything his family needed. His kindness was not limited to just his family; Michael was good to everyone. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He was a very fair, kind, caring, thoughtful person and was known as a true and loyal friend.
He had a clever and witty sense of humor. More that anything Michael found joy in spending time with his family and friends. Michael loved to spend time at the farm working, resting and often took time to watch the local wildlife. He managed the land in a way that served as a refuge for God’s creatures. He never wanted animals on the land harmed or hunted.
