She was born on May 10, 1931, in Hockley County, Texas, to John Coleman "Ted" King and Emma Gene Daniel King. Nancy graduated from Levelland High School and attended Texas Tech University for one year. On April 16, 1950, she married W. E. "Bill" Carr, Jr., beginning a lifelong union built on love, commitment, and shared faith. Together they built a home grounded in devotion to God and family. She enjoyed her life with Bill and her children out on the farms in Clauene.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W. E. "Bill" Carr, Jr.; her sister, Mary Nell Baggett; and her sister, Dr. Evelyn Smiley.
She is survived by her children, daughter Karen Carr Ellison and husband Dewey Ellison, and son John Douglass Carr and wife Mozelle. She leaves a cherished legacy through her grandchildren: William Jayson Ellison and wife Heather; Catherine Elizabeth Carr; RayChel Mozelle Lowrance and husband Wesley; and William Layfette Carr and wife Sydney, as well as eight great-grandchildren who were a constant source of joy and blessing.
Nancy is also survived by her brother, Ben "Stanley" King; her sisters, Ruth Bird Byrne and Kay Houston (Richard); her sisters-in-law, Lila Carr Ratheal and Betty Carr Swain; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved and adored.
Nancy was an accomplished artist and a signature member of the American Watercolor Society. She served faithfully for 28 years on the South Plains College Scholarship Foundation Board, generously giving her time and talents to support education and future generations. Her hobbies included painting, horse racing, and playing the slots. Nancy was also a faithful member of Austin Street Church of Christ for over 80 years.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Austin Street Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Levelland Municipal Cemetery.
Nancy will be remembered as a woman of faith, grace, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her life reflected a servant’s heart, and her legacy of love and faith will continue to guide those she leaves behind. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in God’s promise of eternal life and in knowing she now rests in His perfect peace.
