Neta Marie Hicks, 84, of Levelland passed from this life on November 23, 2023.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023, in the Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.

She was born April 5, 1939 in Santa Anna, Texas to S.A. and Aletha B. (Blewett) Boardman.  Neta started school in Santa Anna, but moved to Coleman where she graduated in 1957.  She played varsity basketball and volleyball for 4 years and was the editor of the high school newspaper.  Neta was a member of the National Honor Society and Future Teachers of America at Coleman High School.

Neta graduated from Texas Tech University in 1961 with a BS in Elementary Education.  She taught first grade in Lubbock from 1961-1966 at Bozeman Elementary and Arnett Benson Elementary.

She married Mack Hicks on April 3, 1966 in Coleman and soon moved to Levelland.  Mack was made manager of the White Face Farms, Inc. Neta and Mack lived on the farm from 1966 until moving to town in 1978.  She was very active on the farm building fence, working and feeding cattle, hauling cotton and grain, helping with the grain elevation at night, hauling equipment, painting equipment that Mack built, and whatever else needed to be done.

Neta worked at the Cottage Dress Shop for Wanda Young from 1971 until it was sold in 1993.  After Mack passed away in 1990, she worked for Nesbitt Auction part time and then retired.

She was baptized in the First Christian Church in Coleman after making a profession of faith on April 5, 1953.  Neta joined Fifth Street Baptist Church in April of 1971 where she served as Sunday School Secretary until August 1999; served as Church Treasurer from 1988 to 1999; and served on various committees until 1999. 

Neta was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Hicks; parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Boardman; and aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Richards.

She is survived by her sister, Glenda Kay Casey and husband Thomas of Granbury; sister-in-law, Jo Hicks of Levelland; nieces, Neta Kaye Penson of Waco, Tracy Pierson and husband Johnny of Granbury, and Missy Hicks Overman Harris of Levelland; nephew, Blake Hicks; great nieces, Taylor Maguire and husband Sean, Kayelee Brooks-Watson and husband Justin, Ali Penson, and Jessica Hicks; and great nephews, Ty Penson and wife Nicole, Casey Pierson, Jeremiah Overman, Guy Don Overman, and Chet Overman; great-great nephews Jack Brooks and Garrett Watson, Walker, Wyatt, and Wesley Maguire, and Harvey Penson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be sent to the Buckner Baptist Home.
