Obituary

Nina Cartwright, 84, of Levelland, Texas passed away March 16, 2026, in Levelland.

A family visitation will be held on Wednesday March 18, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas. Graveside services will be held at Morton Memorial Cemetery on Thursday March 19, 2026, beginning at 11 AM.

Nina was a member of the Church of Christ.

Nina was born August 22, 1941, in Checotah, Oklahoma. She was the seventh child of 11 born to Vernon Slaten and Vannie (Roulston) Slaten.

Nina at an early age moved to West Texas, Bailey County. Most of her growing up years were in Morton, Texas.

Nina married Len Cartwright on September 28, 1963, in the Assembly of God Church in Morton, Texas.

Nina graduated from Morton High School in 1961 and went to San Diego, California where some of her brothers lived. After a short time in California, she returned to Morton and was employed as bookkeeper for Higginbotham-Bartlett Lumber Company.

Nina had a variety of employment her favorite was being Mom to her daughter, Sherri. When her daughter was young, she was employed by a cotton buyer in the fall. She was employed at; First State Bank, Morton, Levelland State Bank (TAB), James Harder Insurance Agency, Production Credit Association (CPA), R&R Enterprises, and South Plains College (SPC). She retired early from SPC to be a care giver for her mother suffering from Alzheimer's. She enjoyed high school and SPC basketball games and attended all the sport events possible that involved the granddaughter. She developed a liking for motorcycle riding on the passenger seat only.

Nina was proceeded in death by her daughter, Sherri Lyn Caddell; her parents Vernon and Vannie Slaten; brothers, Lindsey Bates, Lindal Bates, Kenny Slaten, Billy Slaten and sisters, Roma Watts and Linda Sue Slaten.

Nina is survived by husband of 62 years, Len Cartwright; granddaughter, D'Lyn Pompa and husband Michael; two great granddaughters, Ava and Olivia; son in law, Steve Caddell; brothers Ben Slaten and Jack Slaten and wife, Teresa of California, John Slaten of Big Springs, Texas, Tommy Slaten and wife Sue of Checotah, Oklahoma along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In 2015 Nina faced her greatest fear, a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. Family suggests in lieu of flowers, a donation for Alzheimer's research, Cancer research, or a favorite charity.
