Nina Mae (Holland) Rasberry, age 94, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 4, 2026, passing peacefully at her home in Temple, Texas, surrounded with the comfort and love of her family. She will be laid to rest on her family’s farm in Levelland, Texas following a celebration of life service at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas, Saturday, January 10 at 1pm.
Born on the Great Plains of West Texas in the rural community of Meadow, Texas during the start of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression on February 24, 1931, the daughter of John Waymon Holland (Wilson, Texas) and Nola West (Richland Springs, Texas). Shortly after birth, her father scrapped together enough savings to purchase a small farm in Levelland, Texas. This challenging era and the realities of farm life during WW II helped form the strength of her character and wit as well as her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Nina, the youngest of four siblings grew up helping manage the family cotton farm, focusing on studies and growing in her Christian faith. In her early years of farm life, she developed a strong love for animals which she nurtured the rest of her life. As a member of Levelland High class of 1948, she excelled in academics establishing a life-long love of learning. After high school, Nina followed her older siblings to college. In 1952, she graduated summa cum laude at the University of Corpus Christi with a dual major in biology and chemistry and was one of two women accepted into University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. At the age of 22 and in her freshmen year of medical school, Nina’s mother, Nola Holland, tragically passed away from breast cancer on Christmas Eve, 1953. While taking a third-year summer medical course at University of Michigan in 1955, Nina’s homesickness for family and her beloved state of Texas led to her decision to re-think her pursuit of a medical career and follow her passion of have a family.
On January 29, 1961, Nina Mae Holland married Albert Dale Rasberry in a small private ceremony in Rosenberg, Texas. Nina met Albert while employed as a supervisor chemist for the fertilizer manufacturer, Smith-Douglas, in Texas City, Texas. Her son, John Dee, was born January 1, 1962, followed by a daughter, Jo Ann, born on July 20, 1963, and a second daughter, Jana Lee, born on November 21, 1967. Albert and Nina celebrated 64 years of marriage life. A committed wife and loving mother, Nina Mae, is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. Her only greater commitment in life, other than her family, was to her Lord Jesus Christ. Created by God, Redeemed by Jesus, With Him in Eternity.
