Opal Mae Tugwell

Opal Mae Wade Tugwell of Levelland went to see Jesus on May 7,2024 surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Krestridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Second Baptist Church of Levelland officiated by Reverend Claud Tugwell. Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.

Opal Mae Wade was born on May 19, 1939, to Lee and Jesse Wade in Spur, Texas. She grew up in Brownfield and Levelland, and graduated from Levelland High School, where she then met Don Tugwell while pulling cotton for Don's dad. Don & Opal were married on July 11, 1958, at Morningside Baptist Church in Levelland. In 1959, they welcomed their first daughter, Dawn followed by two more daughters, Sherry in 1961 and Marla in 1962. Opal was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. During their almost 66 years of marriage Opal enjoyed tending to their country home, helping her husband on the farm, and serving children in the school cafeteria. Opal was very involved in Second Baptist Church, an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs and loved attending all of her grandchildren’s sports and activities. Don and Opal also enjoyed many travels across the U.S.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Betty, Margaret, Benny, Bill, Donnie, and Cora. Opal is survived by her husband of 65 years Don Tugwell; daughters, Dawn Childers (Whit), Sherry Carter and Marla Blocker; grandchildren Haleigh Howe (Caleb), Brittni Wilkerson (Kolby), Ashley Friesen (John), Hunter Carter (Madeline), Devin Carter (Kaitlyn), Whitney Blocker, and Mallary Blocker (the Mal Mal), and 18 great grandchildren.
