Ray Portillo

Ray Portillo, 57, of Midland, Texas passed from this life on Thursday, April 9, 2026. Ray entered this world with his twin brother, Roy May 10, 1968. He was born to Elpido and Maria Portillo in Levelland, TX. Ray’s siblings are Rachel (Alfred) Hernandez of Sundown, TX, EJ (Dominga) Portillo of Manor, TX, Victor (Essy) Portillo of Whittharal, TX, Dora (Ronnie) Nunn of Levelland, TX, Rene Portillo of Sundown, TX, and Diana (Roy) Hernandez of Sundown, TX. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, Elpidio and Maria Portillo, and his brothers: Richard, Roy (twin), and Rudy Portillo. He is also preceded in death by his great niece, Allison Garcia.

Ray is a first-generation college graduate. His passion was in the classroom. Soon after graduating from LCU, Ray moved to Midland, TX to pursue a job as a teacher. Later, Ray would go on to earn his masters degree from UTPB to become a principal. He was awarded Teacher of the Year, 2007, and Assistant Principal of the Year for Midland ISD and Region 18, 2022. Mr. Portillo dedicated 31 wonderful years with Midland ISD. He was an accomplished educator.

Outside of education, Ray was a beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was always down to catch a movie, listen to music, and watch his tele-novelas. Ray was special. He was so good at developing and building customized relationships with all who were close to him. He always had a listening ear and the best advice. Even though he did not have children of his own, he took great pride in loving his nieces and nephews. He was a phenomenal cook. Anytime he visited his family, there was always a request for his famous chicken spaghetti. Ray had a witty sense of humor that everyone loved. Ultimately, Ray was incredibly intelligent, he had the biggest heart, and had unlimited, genuine wisdom to share with all.

Services for Ray are on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland, TX. Doors open at 10:30.
