Raymond Stevens

Raymond Alvis (R.A.) Stevens, 88, of Levelland passed from this life on June 13, 2021 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 17, 2021, in the Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.

He was born October 20, 1932 in Mills County, Texas to Thomas Alexander Stevens and Lois Alberta Justin Reynolds.  In 1949 at the age of 16, R.A. graduated from Priddy High School in Priddy, Texas.  He began his farming career in Spade, Texas during his senior year, traveling between Spade and Priddy working and going to school to help provide for his family.

R.A. married Lois Durham on July 26, 1956 in Enochs, Texas.  Together, they farmed in Cochran County until R.A. was 86 years old.

After establishing his farming career in west Texas, he returned to Mills County to relocate his parents to west Texas to care for them and assist them until their deaths.

R.A. was a dedicated farmer, however, his character and integrity defined him by the way that he lived his life for God and his family.  He loved and served God by putting everyone’s needs above his own.  His calling in life was obvious to all who knew him.  R.A.’s faith, family and love for caring for the land God blessed him with were the reason he lived and served tirelessly.

He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton, Texas.

R.A. was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Lois Stevens; brothers, T.J. Stevens and Edwin Stevens; grandson, Kenneth Jarrod Jones; and granddaughter, Natalie Evette Gillie.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois Stevens; sons, Dale Stevens and wife Jeannie and Darrell Stevens and wife Jolyn; daughters, Diana Zahn and husband Sheldon, Doris Miller and husband Danny and Darlene Fillman and husband Paul; sisters, Veonah Jez and Mildred Stevens; grandchildren, Steven Zahn, Mitchell Stevens, Ashley Mills, Casey McCorkle, Pamela Gillie, Kaylee Smith, Ryan Fillman, Cody Fillman and Ashlyn Simmons; and great grandchildren, Carson and Hudson Stevens, Keighton Mills and Maverick McCorkle, Kiersten Gillie and Kaytlyn Dufek and Dustin Smith.

A special thank you to Interim Hospice of Levelland.  They are especially grateful for Stacy, Gina, Betty and George for the love and compassion given to their Dad.  The family also wants to thank Juanita Banda for the care she gave their Dad as well.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in R.A.’s memory be made to the First Missionary Baptist Church, 102 E. Taylor, Morton, Texas 79346.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Krestridge Funeral Home.  (806) 897-1111
