Timothy James Werenko

Timothy James Werenko passed from this life on April 9, 2024. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the City of Levelland Cemetery.

Tim was born on June 18, 1958 in Peabody, Massachusetts to Dimitri and Olga Werenko. He graduated from Peabody High School and received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Soon after graduating, he joined the Air Force as a second lieutenant.

While serving at Little Rock Air Force Base he married Robin Bruton in 1983. His next move was to Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois. It was there that he received an opportunity from the Air Force to pursue a master’s degree and then teach chemistry at the United States Air Force Academy. He jumped at the chance and received his master’s degree from the University of Illinois.

Afterwards, Tim, his wife and two-year old son, Aaron, moved to Colorado to teach chemistry at the Academy for four years. Tim discovered he loved teaching, but the four years at the Academy was a special assignment and he would have to return to his former job, so at the rank of captain he made the big decision to separate from the Air Force at that time to pursue a career teaching chemistry.

This led Tim and his family to Levelland, Texas where he taught chemistry at South Plains College for 28 years before retiring.

Tim was a member of First Baptist Church of Levelland. He loved studying the Bible and loved reading. He also had an interest in learning languages and was able to read the Bible in several of them.

Tim loved sports of all kinds and followed the Dallas Mavericks along with his hometown teams of the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, and Boston Red Sox throughout his life.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Dimitri Werenko, an infant sister, his grandparents, and brothers-in-law, Robert and Bill Bruton.

He is survived by his wife of forty years, Robin; son, Aaron of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Carla Bruton; niece, Michelle (Adam) Mitchell; great-niece and great-nephew, Marissa and Andrew Mitchell; nephew Adam (Allison) Bruton; and great-niece, Adelyn Bruton all of Hensley, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to The Gideons International.

Services with integrity, pride and honor are under the direction of Krestridge Funeral Home. (806)897-1111
