William Edgar ''Bill'' Carr, Jr., 87, of Levelland passed from this life on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Austin Street Church of Christ. Interment will follow at the City of Levelland Cemetery.

Bill was born in Clauene, Texas and went to school in Levelland, after Clauene schools consolidated with Levelland. He was a graduate of Levelland High School.

Bill met Nancy King in 1947 and they married on April 16, 1950 at Austin Street Church of Christ in Levelland, 67 years later they are still members of the congregation.

Bill was a natural born farmer, he loved the land and all things involved with farming. His fellow farmers voted for him to serve as their representative for 10 years of county service on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Board. In 2002, Bill was elected to the office of Hockley County Committee, Precinct 2, High Plains Underground Water Conservation District #1. He served on gin boards for many years and helped to co-op the gin he used. Later, in 1985 he managed United Cotton Growers Gin.

Bill believed all farmers should keep a strong and deep faith. He told Nancy, ''Remember it was not raining when Noah built the ark,'' and he also believed when tillage begins, all other arts follow. Therefore, farmers are the founders of human civilization.

Bill said, ''Smart phones and IPads will not grow black-eyed peas, tomatoes, green beans, okra, corn, and not KING COTTON.''

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Edgar and Lilly Mae Carr, and brothers, I.T. Carr and J.C. Pollard.

Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nancy Carr; son, John Carr and wife Mozelle; daughter, Karen Ellison and husband Dewey; four grandchildren, Jayson Ellison, Caydee Carr, Raychel Lowrance and husband Wesley, Will Carr and wife Sydney; five great-grandchildren, Vivienne Belle Lowrance, Alice Mozelle Lowrance, Violet Raychelle Lowrance, Georgia Grace Carr, and Henry Elgin Carr.
