Winnie Reid

Winnie Reid, 87, of Levelland, Texas passed from this life on September 5, 2016 in Levelland. She was born September 19, 1928 to Walton O. and Eva B. (Kirkham) Bowen.

Winnie was born in Brown County, Texas, and grew up around the Abilene area. She married Charles Warren Reid in Levelland, Texas on September 22, 1948. With her pioneering spirit, Winnie was the first woman to graduate from SPC in automotive repair. She was a writer for the Levelland Sun News and Levelland News Press. Winnie taught piano and swimming as well as being very involved in the women's softball league. She was active in the women's auxiliary of the VFW, and for 18 years dedicated her service and loyalty to the Hockley County Sheriff's Department. Winnie was a charter member of Fifth Street Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her father, Walton ''Otho'' Bowen; mother, Eva Byrd; husband, Charles Warren Reid; and son, Randal Reid.

Those left to cherish her memory include sons, Jesse Reid and wife Cindi of Illinois and Harley Reid of Levelland; daughter-in-laws, Debbie Reid of Arlington and Carol Reid of Lubbock; 8 grandchildren, Amy Reid of Dallas, Tjay Reid of Arlington, Michael Reid and Christopher (Stacie) Reid of Jacksonville, FL, Austin Reid of Richardson, Evan and Kelsey Reid of Lubbock, and Madeline Hohman of Springfield, Il.

Family visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016, from 3:00-5:00 pm at Krestridge Funeral Home. Funeral services to honor Winnie's life will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016, at 2:00 pm in Second Baptist Church in Levelland with burial to follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
