Glenda LaNell Throckmorton

October 24, 1937 ~ January 7, 2020 (age 82)

Glenda LaNell Maner was born in Littlefield, Texas on October 24, 1937, the second of four children, to Doss and Vena Maner. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 7, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Doss Wayne and James Ray. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Verlie Throckmorton; daughter Kathy (Bobby) Padgett; son Gary (Elizabeth) Throckmorton; grandchildren Clifford, Sarah, and Kelly Throckmorton; sister Kay (Tommy) Echols, and a host of loving extended family and close friends.

Glenda met and dated her future husband, Verlie, while in high school at Whitharral, Texas. After graduating in 1956 as Valedictorian of her class, Glenda attended one year of college at the Texas State College for Women in Denton, where she earned an Office Management/Secretarial certificate. Verlie returned on leave from the Navy in February of 1957, and he and Glenda were married. They moved to San Francisco, where Verlie was stationed, and lived there until the summer of 1958 when they returned to Texas. Their love story which began in high school and weathered the storms of life for 67 years is a beautiful picture of true commitment.

Verlie attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and Glenda worked an outside job to support the family during those years. Kathy was born in 1958 and Gary was born in 1961. After Verlie’s graduation in 1963, he took a job with Dallas Power & Light, and they moved to Dallas and then to Richardson. Glenda worked at the University of Texas at Dallas for 25 years, in the Science and Mathematics Education Department. Many long-term friendships were made during those years and she loved her job, co-workers, and students.

Glenda loved to travel and planned great vacations. When the kids were growing up, the family traveled every summer throughout the U.S. and camped in beautiful settings. After their children were grown, Verlie and Glenda continued to travel throughout the world and visited many wonderful destinations.

When Glenda had the privilege of becoming a grandmother, she was crazy about her grandchildren! She loved to have them in her home, or go stay with them in their home when their parents traveled. Nothing pleased her more than keeping up with Cliff, Sarah, and Kelly’s milestones as they grew up.

Glenda was a member of First Baptist Church Richardson for 56 years, and the Joy Bible Study Class for most of those years. She raised her children to honor God and to understand the importance of a commitment to Jesus Christ as their Savior. Because Glenda had trusted in Jesus as a young girl, we have the wonderful confidence that she is with Him today, fully alive and full of joy! No more suffering, sadness, sorrow, or pain!

A Celebration of Life service for Glenda will be held in Levelland, TX at the Krestridge Funeral Home on her birthday, October 24th. The service will begin at 3:00 p.m., open to all family and friends! It will also be live-streamed at
